Cards with a ralink 2500 chipset
Cards with ralink 2500 chipsets are normally recognized on the interface ra0 or rausb0 using the native driver that comes
with MEPIS Linux 7.0. Here is how to get online with this chipset:
- Go through the basic steps (see Section 5.7.1), choosing to disable Ndiswrapper.
- Be sure to set up without encryption first if possible.
- Sometimes Ndiswrapper interferes--your card may or may not show up on the interface wlan0. If you experience problems, you
should blacklist Ndiswrapper. Right-click on the desktop and choose Run Command. Type:
kdesu kwrite /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
and enter the root password when prompted. Add these two lines anywhere:
#interferes with native driver
blacklist ndiswrapper
- If your card is recognized but you can't set the SSID/ESSID, put the network down first by entering as root:
ifdown ra0 (or: rausb0)
iwconfig rao (or: rausb0) ssid yourname
ifup ra0 (or: rausb0)
- If problems persist, it may be because of problems with Knetworkmanager. Try entering as root:
modprobe rt2500
iwconfig
- If you now see an entry for ra0 (or rausb0), then enter:
rmmod ndiswrapper
rmmod rt2500
modprobe rt2500
