MX Linux sources

Current release: MX-15 Beta 2

Released November 24, 2015, two ISOs are available from the sources listed below (see Features for details):

  • MX-15-b2_386, containing two 32 bit kernels
    • PAE, for most recent systems
    • non-PAE, for older systems that don't support PAE*
  • MX-15-b2_x64, with a single 64 bit PAE kernel.

1. Need installation help? See the Users Manual.
2. If you want to create a USB on a Windows base, we suggest you use Rufus, which supports our bootloader.
3. If on a Linux base, be sure to upgrade unetbootin, syslinux, and extlinux to the most recent versions.
4. If your USB starts but leaves you with an error message: "gfxboot.c32: not a COM32R image" you need to type the word live at the prompt in the next line in order to boot. Reformatting the USB and reinstalling the ISO should remove the error. If not, try a different USB.
5. If the graphic USB creators fail, use one of the command line options below. Let us assume your USB is identified as sde, then copy and paste this line for the 32 bit kernels:

dd bs=4M if=MX-15-b2_386-mx.iso of=/dev/sde && sync

and this one for the 64 bit one:

dd bs=4M if=MX-15-b2_x64-mx.iso of=/dev/sde && sync

Make sure to change the identifier of your USB stick if necessary (e.g., sde to sdb)

[Not available for Beta versions]

*If you are in doubt about which version you need, please see this page. The non-PAE kernel is exactly the same as the PAE one with one exception:

  • uses a 586 kernel instead of the 686 one

Note that the non-pae i386 kernel does not support SMP
